Monteith Dead - Esteemed Lady Passed Away On Thursday Morning After Long Illness The death took place this (Thursday) morning at the family residence, corner of John and Douglas streets, of Elizabeth Gibson Monteith, wife of Mr. John C. Monteith, real estate agent and an ex-mayor of this city. Deceased, who was in her 57th year, had been ill for about two years of anaemia, paralysis taking place about a year ago, since which time she has been almost helpless. She was a daughter of the late Samuel Monteith of the Gore of Downie, where she was born. She was married in 1876, and lived on the outskirts of the city till about four years ago, when the family moved to their present residence in the city. She was an active member of St. James' Church while her health permitted and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her. Besides her husband she leaves a family of nine, five sons and four daughters. The sons are: A.H., barrister, Brussels; S.W., grocer, Wellington St.; J.A. on the staff of the Hydro-Electric Commission, Toronto; Harold, of the Bank of Montreal, Stratford and Clarence at home. The daughters are Annie, Minnie E. and Ethel, all at home, and Fannie E., teacher at Baden. One son predeceased her seven years ago. Hon. Nelson Monteith is a brother, and Mrs. W. Jeffrey and Mrs. (Dr.) W. N. Robertson, Douglas St., are sisters. The funeral takes place tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock to St. James Church, where service will be held, thence to Avondale cemetery.
