Melbourne Joseph Monteith June 13, 1914 - May 6, 1998 |
Peacefully at Memorial Hospital in St. Marys, Ontario, Canada, on Wednesday, May 6, 1998; Melbourne J. (Mel) Monteith formerly of West Nissouri Township, in his 84th year. Beloved husband of Karen (Jensen) Monteith. Loving father of Malcolm Monteith & wife Donna of Guelph, Lloyd Monteith & fiance Catharine Cook of Granton. Loving grandfather of Jane, Jennifer, Lisa, Jocelyn, Amanda and Amy; and great-grandfather of Katherine, Alex, Brendon, Jessica, and Erika, Daniel, Jaime and Kristyn. Dear brother of Eddie Monteith of St. Marys, Helen Herman of St. Marys, Gordon Monteith of Tavistock, Dorothy MacDonald & Oliverne Meldrum all of Thorndale, Roy Monteith of Uniondale and sisters-in-law Margaret Monteith of Thorndale, and Tonny Monteith of Vancouver, B.C. Predeceased by brothers Donald and Jim, a sister Elsie, brothers-in-law Ed Fitzsimmons, Harold MacDonald, and Charlie Fuller, sisters-in-law Mary, Marian, and Connie Monteith. Mel farmed successfully in West Nissouri Twp. for over 60 years. More recently, he was instrumental in developing Meadow Park sub-division in Thorndale, comprised of over 110 residences. Besides being a former member of the Lions' Club, Mel had a keen interest in the sport of tug-of-war in which he participated actively for more than 60 years. The funeral service was held from the L.A. Ball Funeral Chapel (Ball & Sass Ltd.) 7 Water St. N. at St. Marys on Saturday, May 9, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. with interment in Vining's Cemetery.
