At her residence on Tuesday, September 14, 1999, Edith Louise (Lou) Simpson (ne Monteith) in here 102nd year. Born in Downie Township, she was a daughter of the late Honourable Nelson Monteith and former Ida May Lupton. She and her husband, Robert MacEwan Simpson, who predeceased her on Sept. 6, 1979, had farmed for many years in Blanchard Township. She was also an elementary school teacher for many years. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living graduate of the Stratford Normal School. She had been a member of Motherwell Presbyterian Church, a longtime member of the Women's Missionary Society and the Motherwell Women's Institute. Surviving are her children Don Simpson and wife Marie of Blanchard Township, Verna Willows of Stratford, Eileen Hosick of Toronto and Lois and her husband Fred Kipfer of Stratford; 17 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren: sisters Ruth Packham and Frances Holden, both of Stratford; a sister-in-law Marjorie Monteith of London, Ont.; a brother-in-law Fred McKay of Downie Township and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by sons-in-law Floyd Willows and Wallace Hosick; sisters Elsie and Maude Monteith, Margaret Cronin, Hazel McKay and Grace skinner and brothers Nelson and Howard Monteith. The funeral was held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St., Stratford, on Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999 at 2 p.m. with Lily Kampferseck of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial followed in Avondale Cemetery, Stratford. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Spruce Lodge or a charity of one's choice through the funeral home at (519) 271-7411.
