MONTEITH
Mr. Edward Alfred Monteith, age 97, passed away peacefully at the Kingsway Lodge, St. Marys on Sunday January 7, 2007. Born in the Gore of Downie Township, son of the late Andrew Monteith and the former Edith McLeod. Ed farmed in Zorra Township all his life and was a former Councilor and Reeve of Zorra Township in the 1950's. He served on the S.M.D.H.S. Collegiate Board and was a member and Elder of Knox Presbyterian Church, Harrington. Ed loved playing euchre. Beloved husband of the late Mary Elizabeth (Fraser) Monteith whom he married on June 23, 1931 in Embro. Loving father of Fraser Monteith and wife Mary of R.R. 3 Embro and Gayle McCaul and husband James of Powell River, B.C.  Dear grandfather of Diane Monteith and Sandy, Alberta, Brian Monteith and wife Louise, RR 3 Embro, Harold Monteith and wife Norma, Arizona, Gary Monteith and wife Angela, Bracebridge, Wayne Robinson and wife Stacey, Alberta, Susan Moffett and husband Ray, Waterloo, Kate McCaul and Gerald, Toronto, Karen Grant and husband Adam, Nilestown. Great Grandfather of Curtis, Vanessa, Ryan, Tanya, Alicia, Matthew, Nicole, Katrina, Torin, Kolton, Tyson, Morgan, Robert, Grace and Lucjia, great great grandfather of Chelsea, Hayden, Connor. Also survived by sisters Dorothy McDonald, Oliverne Meldrum, sisters-in-law Tonny Dear and Karen Monteith. Besides his parents and wife he was predeceased by great grandson Christopher Monteith, brothers Gordon, Melbourne, James, Donald, Roy, sisters Elsie Fitzsimmons, Helen Herman and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Friday January 12th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. David Ketchen will officiate. Spring interment will be in Knox Presbyterian Cemetery, Harrington.
